Interview with Duwayne Brooks, friend of Stephen Lawrence

January 12, 2012

Duwayne Brooks was Stephen Lawrence’s best friend, and was with him on the night he was murdered. Duwayne kindly agreed to give me an interview for this blog, in which he talks about his reaction to the conviction of two men for the murder of Stephen Lawrence.

Our students have been fascinated and appalled by the case, which took place just a few miles from our school, and so we’ve used a range of video resources to promote awareness and discussion about it, and the role of the police and the media.

Here are some links to the videos and resources we have found most useful. Feel free to show your students this video of Duwayne’s interview – it’s just a rough cut right now – but I wanted to get it out there for people to use. Get in touch if you have any trouble playing it.

very real, honest and heart touching about a situation which everyone, irrrespective of race, colour should be able to listen to and be able to understand about what happened that night 18yrs ago…..better late than never? its a discussion to be had about the police and justice. Open discussion about this needs to be encouraged
