Our Year 9 students have taken part in the Tenner Tycoon challenge this term… yes, all of them! Each student was given a loan of £10 and challenged to make as much profit as possible from it. It’s fair to say it stimulated a huge amount of enterprise with our playground looking like a bustling market as times. Our top business group made almost £200 profit in 2 weeks! The money for the Tenner Tycoon comes from the Dragon’s Den’s Peter Jones and others.
A couple of bits of advice:
- While it’s a great project, Enterprise UK who administer the project, do not provide many useful classroom resources. We’ve developed a few of our own, which I am happy to share if anyone is interested.
- I would recommend that you don’t allow students to sell crisps, chocolate and soft drinks! It causes too much friction with the canteen… and the Healthy Eating policy!
- This is not a Citizenship project, but a good one all the same!
