From students to journalists

March 11, 2011

We’re taking part in the BBC News School Report… but with a little twist. Instead of choosing a small group of students to produce a report on BBC News School Report Day (March 24), we’re working with all the Year 8 students (210!) to produce dozens of reports, which they will create in the weeks leading up to the day.

As part of this, we’ve adapted one of the BBC News School Report’s suggested lessons, and come up with a challenge – a whole class must produce a news report, from scratch, within 30 minutes. Have a look at the video to see it in action, click Newsroom Lesson Plan for a simple lesson plan, and News Team Roles for roles and resources.

The great thing about this activity, which I hope you can see in the video, is that the students take control of the whole process!
