We’ve run a project this term to make 60 second Citizenship campaigning films with our Year 9 students. I called it, ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’!
A couple of thoughts. I think we need to sell our lessons / learning projects. Think of the TV news. It’s starts with the big headline, then the other up-coming stories, then half-way through the news it repeats the headline, then again at the end. This helps you a) remember the headline, but also tempts to stay tuned in for the whole news. I’ve been trying to do that with our kids. Sell the project – the Big Picture – with a Big Bang. This video was my attempt to do this.
On a practical level, we did this project with over 200 kids, and 8 cameras! I think enrichment projects with a small group of kids are great, but the real challenge is to do these projects as an entitlement for all the students in a year group, and that’s what we’ve done. The cameras we used are Flip cameras, which you can buy for around £80.
Here are a couple of rough edits of some of the films I like.
